Rahul Gandhi & his Doon School-mates

he Doon school-mates of Rahul Gandhi who’re deserting Congress, aren’t going to make much difference in BJP too.

Rahul’s ex-coterie

However the biggest blunder/foolishness of Rahul Gandhi was losing Himanta Biswa Sarma, when the man ‘waited long enough’ in Congress to get his due.

Rahul trusted Tarun Gogoi than Himanta because his father Rajiv had told that he was a ‘good-man’(and the reason for that would be even more childishly silly). He even failed to listen to the political wisdom of seasoned Ahmed Patel and other seniors, about the value of Himanta.

Now Tarun Gogoi is gone. His son Gaurav is as useless as Rahul’s other Doon schoolmates. #Himanta has not just got his due in BJP, rather has gifted the entire North-East in platter to BJP-RSS (that was unimaginable for them nearly a decade back).

Infact, Himanta ‘blamed’ Rahul that he only trusts people of ‘reputed-families’. And half of his reputed-trusted-coterie has left him and rest are waiting for their chances to exit.

Anybody, who still believes Rahul Gandhi is an alternative to challenge Modi-Shah is still living in fools’ paradise. Congress supporters and liberals can call me a ‘soft-sanghi’ for saying this, but the fact is, RG is a total political wastrel.

Rahul Gandhi

There are many Congress beat reporters and sympathisers who’re pounding into defense of Rahul Gandhi. Much like RaGa, they are largely unaware of the institution’s history, which was once a cradle for Indian Democracy.

Congress shifted from an elitist club into a party for the masses under Mahatma Gandhi — who was its most popular leader. Once the party reached every nook-and-corner of the country, committees were formed at block, district, state and national levels. And office-bearers for each were selected through elections. This ‘committee-based’ organisation structure is existent till today.

What’s the proof that Congress was democratic under Mahatma? In 1939 Netaji Subash Chandra Bose became the All India Congress Committee (AICC) president after defeating Gandhi’s preferred candidate. Though Bose resigned immediately, acceding to Gandhi’s wishes, still this was a proof that there was a largely free-and-fair intra-party election system.

Congress retained its democratic character at lower levels even under the one-man-ship of Nehru. However, it was Indira Gandhi who turned it into a ‘Personality Cult’ (which also happened because of the male-chauvnism of her father’s peers). Post her, the party became a full-fledged ‘Family Enterprise’ and has now become a rotten skeleton of its past.

Indian National Congress under Gandhiji was a confluence of diversity. Today it is a hub of far-left elitism and dynasts without fiefdoms. Unless it reinvigorates its mass-appeal of the past, it is truly a s(t)inking ship.
